How Johnson & Johnson Is Involved With the HBA
In addition to being an HBA Corporate Partner, Johnson & Johnson's Women's Leadership Initiative won the first ever HBA ACE Award in 2007. Since the launch of the WLI in 1995, Johnson & Johnson has tracked significant increases in the numbers and percentages of women on executive committees — from company presidents and managing directors outside the US to corporate officers, company group chairs, executive and director-level leaders, and those with both line and staff management positions. Additionally, J&J honors its female talent across the healthcare industry with HBA Rising Star and Luminary Awards each year.
At Johnson & Johnson, supporting and igniting the power of women has been a top priority since its founding in 1886. When the company opened its doors, eight out of the first 14 employees were women, and by 1908, the company had eight female department supervisors — a rarity for that time, says Margaret Gurowitz, Chief Historian, Johnson & Johnson. J&J believes that women can be catalysts for creating healthier people, healthier communities, and a healthier world. Women are innovators meeting today’s challenges and inventing tomorrow’s solutions. They are scientists and technologists. They are caregivers, mentors, mothers, and innovators. They are the anchors of the family, leaders in our business, and drivers of the global economy. We must champion them. Celebrate them. Partner with them. And give them the freedom to pursue their passions.
Caring for women in our global community will fuel the future of human health.
Today, the J&J workforce today is nearly 50% female, and the company's diversity and inclusion programs led to its placement in DiversityInc's Hall of Fame in 2021. Take a look below at a few of the ways Johnson & Johnson has worked to advance and celebrate women both inside and outside the company for over a century.
