Previous HBA STAR
2008: Anne Camille Talley
The Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) named Anne Camille Talley as its 2008 Strategic Transformation Achievement Recognition (STAR). Talley has been an HBA volunteer for nearly two decades and is a past three-term HBA board member.
Each year, the HBA honors a STAR who stands apart as an exemplary role model by demonstrating a long-term commitment to the HBA’s strategic goals of furthering the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare.
“Volunteering is essentially always worth the extra effort. It has helped broaden and deepen my understanding of teams, mentors and advocates,” said Talley. “My involvement in the HBA has returned much more than I invested. It has opened doors that would not have been open otherwise and ultimately has helped me become a more effective person and a satisfied, successful professional.”
The HBA established the STAR award in 1999 to annually honor members who are exemplary role models and have demonstrated a long-term commitment to advancing the organization’s goals. “Anne Camille has served the HBA generously. Her work has deeply influenced the strategic direction and focus of the HBA, and it is only fitting that we present her with this award in appreciation of her outstanding volunteerism and leadership,” said HBA chair emeritus, Elizabeth M. Mutisya, MD
Talley is principal of health leaders consultancy, a pharmaceutical marketing consulting practice that specializes in market research, commercial development and market planning. She credits the HBA with an education in “how people rise in an organization” and with pointing her towards countless opportunities for rewarding assignments, both volunteer and professional.
A committee chair or member of the HBA board of directors for nearly 10 years, Talley also led four major HBA research initiatives, all of which have been instrumental in guiding the direction of the organization. Most recently, she co-chaired the E.D.G.E. (Empowerment, Diversity, Growth, Excellence) in Leadership Study, an in-depth analysis of the progress and career advancement of women into the most senior ranks of the healthcare industry. She also helped build the CONNECTIONS mentoring program and co-chaired the 2003 HBA Leadership Conference. Talley continues to serve as a mentor to HBA’s Boston chapter.
“This award is a delightful recognition of so much done by so many volunteers in the HBA,” said Talley. “That one person is named ‘STAR’ is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the efforts of hundreds of women working to accomplish the HBA’s mission.”
