Reaction Video Guide

Thank you for participating in this self-recording process. We can’t wait to celebrate & recognize YOU during the Woman of the Year celebration.

Each year, at the Woman of the Year celebration, we recognize the year's Rising Stars and Luminaries cohort. One way we do this is through a compilation of reaction videos

Below is a complete guide for creating and submitting your short reaction video clip. We will use your headshot if a reaction video isn't submitted. 

iPhone Users 

  • Adjust record capture settings.
    • Settings > Camera > Formats > Select “MOST COMPATIBLE” 
    • Settings > Camera > Record Video > Select 1080p HD at 30FPS” •

Android Users 

  • Adjust record capture settings. 
    • Camera > Select the gear icon > Front Video Size > Select “16:9 FHD, 1920x1080, 30FPS” 

Clothes

  • Wear something comfortable that is still appropriate for viewing during the luncheon in NYC! Please avoid tops with stripes and bright colors, as they don’t translate well on screen. 

Lighting

  • It’s best to shoot in a naturally lit room instead of relying on ceiling and ceiling fan lights.

Location

  • Record yourself in a distraction-free space. 
  • Avoid recording yourself with windows, mirrors, or reflective glass in the background (to avoid glare). 

Camera placement and framing

  • The camera should be as eye-level as possible. You can achieve this by… 
    • Placing your phone on top of books or other items.
    • Having someone hold the phone for you. 
    • Using a phone tripod. 
  • The camera should be as centered as possible, not tilting too far up (too much headroom) or too far down (too little headroom). 
  • Record with some space for your shoulders and the space above your head. You’ll be cheering and celebrating, and we want to capture your excitement!

  1. Confirm your camera settings, placement, lighting, and location. 
  2. Open your camera app, switch to the front-facing camera, and identify where the camera lens is. You’ll want to keep eye contact with the lens and not. 
  3. Go to the “Video mode” and begin recording. 
  4. Slowly say your name and your company name. This way, our editors will be sure to get it right! 
    1. Optional: As it suits your personality, feel free to use props, like a champagne glass, party hat, etc., to celebrate
  5. Wait for ~two seconds.
  6. Now you're on! Smile for ~three seconds while looking at the camera lens (not the screen).
  7. Cheer and celebrate for ~five seconds. You can...
    1. Smile and wave your hands
    2. Give a thumbs-up
    3. Show your props
    4. Any other gestures that convey celebrating
  8. Look at the camera lens (not the screen) with a smile for another ~five seconds.
  9. End the recording and review your video. Re-record as needed.

If we do not receive a video by the deadline, or if you do not wish to provide one, your headshot will be used instead.
