HBA Toronto Member Spotlight: Laura Daines
What is your current job title?
Associate Director Commercialization Myeloid, WW Hematology at Bristol Myers Squibb.
Why did you join the HBA?
I joined the HBA because it is a great way to connect with other like-minded women. The HBA offers a lot of value to its members via mentoring programs, seminars, workshops and so much more.
What are your interests outside of work and the HBA?
I love the outdoors. I have two teenage boys and enjoy golfing, wake surfing, and skiing with them. I also love to travel and experience new things.
What or who inspires you?
I am inspired foremostly by my grandmother who worked on a farm in Saskatchewan. Despite all the hardships faced, she focused on the positive aspects and never complained saying “things could always be worse”.
Secondly, I am inspired by all women who never gave up on their dreams in the face of adversity. There isn’t one that stands out but many. A great read that highlights many of them is ‘Gutsy Women’ by Hilary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton
What’s your favourite quote?
There are many quotes I like but this one sums up all of them: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” - Wayne Gretzky and other great athletes.
Sneaking in three other quotes:
I have learned recently to “lean in” because “I know I can figure it out” and “I can do hard things”. - Sheryl Sanberg, Marie Forleo, and Gennon Doyle.
A fun fact about me is that I have lived in four provinces and soon-to-be two countries.
