Meet Dr. Aradhana Sarin: The 2026 HBA Woman of the Year
Physician, financier, and biopharmaceutical leader shaping the future of global healthcare
Dr. Aradhana Sarin’s career reflects the full arc of healthcare leadership, from patient care to global strategy and scientific innovation. It is this integrated perspective that has earned her recognition as the 2026 HBA Woman of the Year, an honor presented annually to an executive who has made extraordinary contributions across the healthcare ecosystem while championing the development of the next generation of leaders.
Dr. Sarin brings more than 25 years of experience spanning clinical practice, global finance, and biopharmaceutical leadership, offering a rare vantage point on advancing patient access, scientific innovation, and sustainable growth. Her career has unfolded across four defining chapters: early clinical practice in India and Africa, two decades advising life sciences and biopharmaceutical companies on Wall Street, senior leadership at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, and today, guiding global financial stewardship as Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of AstraZeneca.
“Across every stage of my career, I’ve learned that every decision, whether in the clinic or the boardroom, should serve patients and support the next generation of leaders,” said Dr. Sarin.
This patient-centric perspective was shaped early in her career. After earning her medical degree from the University of Delhi, Dr. Sarin spent two years practicing clinically in India and Tanzania, delivering care within healthcare systems marked by vastly different resources and constraints. These experiences grounded her leadership in patient realities and reinforced a belief that meaningful progress in healthcare requires both scientific excellence and thoughtful systems level decision making.
At AstraZeneca, Aradhana has guided strategic expansion, strengthened investment in research and development, and fostered global innovation while maintaining a focus on long term value creation. Her prior leadership roles include Chief Financial Officer of Alexion Pharmaceuticals, as well as senior positions at Citi, UBS, and J.P. Morgan, where she advised more than 100 healthcare transactions spanning mergers, acquisitions, and financing.
Her accomplishments at AstraZeneca, combined with a career that spans patient care, global strategy, and scientific innovation, have led to a notable distinction. Dr. Aradhana Sarin is the first organizational Chief Financial Officer to be named HBA Woman of the Year.
“Being named HBA Woman of the Year is an extraordinary honor and a recognition that reflects the collective work of colleagues, mentors, and teams who have supported, challenged, and inspired me,” said Dr. Sarin. “Together, we can continue to shape an environment where leaders thrive and transform the healthcare ecosystem to benefit all patient populations.”
Beyond financial performance, Aradhana is deeply committed to representative leadership and talent development at every level. She serves as executive sponsor of AstraZeneca’s Network of Women and Allies, supporting thousands of women and men globally and contributing to measurable progress toward gender balance in senior leadership. She also elevates representative leadership voices through mentorship and platforms such as her “In Conversation with” podcast series, fostering dialogue, visibility, and shared learning across the healthcare and life sciences ecosystem.

In addition to her executive responsibilities, Dr. Sarin shares her extensive expertise through governance and service. She recently served two years on the Board of Governors of the American Red Cross and is currently an Independent Director and Audit Committee member of Anheuser Busch InBev, where she provides oversight on financial governance and risk management.
Dr. Sarin will be honored and deliver a keynote address at the HBA Global Ascension Leadership Awards Experience, taking place 23-24 April 2026, in San Diego, California. Designed for leaders navigating an increasingly complex health and life sciences landscape, this event convenes forward thinking executives, innovators, and change makers for meaningful dialogue around the ideas, strategies, and solutions shaping the future of the industry.
Thoughtfully curated to balance insight, connection, and recognition, the two-day Experience creates space for learning, reflection, and shared exchange. In addition to recognizing Dr. Sarin, the program will also spotlight the recipients of the 2026 HBA Honorable Mentor, STAR, and Global Impact Award recipients.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from Dr. Sarin and other leaders whose work is influencing the future of healthcare, and to engage with the perspectives and experiences driving progress across the industry.
