HBA Staff Spotlight: Kayla Brennan Recognized for Mission-Driven Impact

At the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA), our mission is powered by a passionate and dedicated team working tirelessly behind the scenes. Through our HBA Staff Spotlight Series, we’re celebrating the dedicated individuals who bring #HBAimpact to life. This monthly feature shines a light on the talent, heart, and purpose fueling our organization. Each spotlight offers an introduction to the powerhouse individuals who help realize the HBA’s vision, Creating Healthcare Leaders for Life. In this series, we share our staff stories, contributions, and the unique perspectives they bring to the HBA’s global community. 

This month, we are pleased to recognize Kayla Brennan, Senior Manager of Global Conferences and Events. Kayla joined the HBA team in 2022, bringing with her more than a decade of expertise in the events and association industries, where she honed her skills in delivering high-impact, audience-focused experiences. 

“Working with Kayla is a true privilege! Her innovative thinking, sharp attention to detail, and collaborative spirit make every project stronger,” said Amy Crolius, CAE, Chief Operating Officer at the HBA. “She brings positivity and ease to every interaction, while consistently delivering exceptional results. She doesn’t just do her job well; she elevates everyone around her.” 

In her current role with the HBA, Kayla leads the strategy, planning, and execution of HBA’s large-scale conferences and events worldwide. She works cross-functionally with HBA staff, Member Leaders, Corporate Partners, vendors, external speakers, and other key stakeholders to ensure each event is both seamless and impactful. With a strong background in logistics, project and program management, and attendee engagement, Kayla is recognized for leveraging her versatile skill set to deliver experience-driven design that elevates every aspect of the event. 

“Kayla is truly a ray of sunshine in our department. A natural people person, she thrives on collaboration and brings both depth and versatility to every project,” said Dr. Telesia Davis, Vice President, Global Education, Conferences, and Events at the HBA. “Beyond her warm and bubbly personality, what I value most is her gift for finding creative ways to make complex challenges feel simple, always with the goal of enhancing the experience for members, leaders, staff, and partners alike.” 

Prior to working at the HBA, Kayla managed the educational offerings and supported the volunteer experience at a non-profit association in the higher education space. She holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Clemson University.

Q: What has working with the HBA meant to you personally or professionally? 

 “This role has been a meaningful chapter in both my personal and professional journey. Over time, my responsibilities have grown, my role has evolved, and I’ve had the opportunity to stretch beyond my comfort zone. I’ve developed new skills, deepened existing ones, and learned to navigate challenges with more confidence and clarity. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how much I’ve grown; not just in what I do, but in how I think, lead, and collaborate. I’m grateful for the opportunities, the support of my team, and the experiences that continue to shape me.” 

Q: What are some of your favorite HBA memories and milestones? 

“There’s nothing quite like being on-site at an event; it’s where all the planning, coordination, and behind-the-scenes work come to life. At every event, there's a moment when the signage is in place, the attendees are engaged, and the program is flowing where I just get to pause, step back, and take everything in. It’s the energy of attendees, the problem-solving in real time, the teamwork and camaraderie with HBA staff, and the tangible impact of months of preparation that make it all worth it. Being on-site during an event reminds me why I love what I do: creating experiences that bring people together and make lasting impressions.” 

Q: Please share any interests or accomplishments outside of work you'd like to be included in your Staff Spotlight 

“I'm an avid reader and love starting and ending my days with a few chapters of a good book. I have a passion for travel, whether it’s a quick day trip to a favorite beach spot or discovering somewhere completely new, but I’m also a homebody at heart. I find just as much joy in rewatching my favorite shows, working on small home renovation projects, or spending time outside playing with our dogs. Lately, I’ve also been in full wedding planning mode with my fiancé, which has been such a fun and exciting adventure!”
