HBA Greater Rochester Event – Walk with Me
On Saturday 13 July, HBA Greater Rochester embarked on a journey through Highland Park, the premier of three parks making up the Rochester Park System. JoAnn Beck, the president of the Highland Park Conservatory, led a group of five HBA Greater Rochester members through the park, which was designed by world-renowned landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmstead (best known for his collaboration on Central Park in New York City). Prior the walk, JoAnn explained Rochester is one of just four cities nationwide with a park system designed by Olmstead. Highland Park, Genesee Valley and Seneca Park make up the Rochester Park System.
Attendees marveled at both the history of the park, and the nature features, making this “walk with me” event was more of a “explore with me” event. In Highland Park, even if no defined walking trail is present, or noted on the map, parkgoers will find themselves guided by the landscape. Every feature is intentional, from the way the hills meet to form a valley behind the conservatory to the way the paved road curves down from the reservoir. A big thank you to Mallory Scott for organizing Walk with Me events!
Mark your calendars for another interesting HBA Greater Rochester event happening on 28 August 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm, “The Superpowers of Introverts: How To Live Your Life Your Way Without The Guilt.” Register here!
