2026 Global Board and Nom Com FAQs

WHAT POSITIONS MUST BE FILLED THIS YEAR?

The vacancies on the 2026 Board of Directors are the Executive Committee (3) including the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, voting Directors at Large (3) and (2) non-voting. The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for two positions.

WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF BOARD SERVICE?

The three officer roles on the Executive Committee are one-year terms with the opportunity to serve a subsequent one-year term upon reapplication.

The Directors at Large roles are two-year terms with the opportunity to serve two subsequent terms (total of six years) upon reapplication.

The Board may appoint any number of non-voting Director at Large roles for a one-year term to enable the work and diversity of the board to be adequately managed.

WHO ELECTS THE BOARD?

The HBA membership with those who are members in good standing as of October 1 of the current year vote (typically electronically) for the slate of candidates put forth by the HBA Nominating Committee.

HOW MUCH TIME DOES BOARD SERVICE REQUIRE?

Board members must be willing to invest time in preparing for and thoughtfully participating in board meetings. The association board meets (in-person and virtually) four times a year in an official capacity to conduct HBA board business.  Additionally, we offer monthly virtual calls (optional) as an opportunity to connect with your board colleagues outside of official board business. 

Board members are expected to serve on a board committee or action team (which include additional meetings), attend HBA signature events (Woman of the Year or Annual Conference) , and engage their organization (and other organizations where possible!) to support the HBA as Corporate Partners, Think Tank members, and sponsors.

It is also expected that Board Members actively engage with HBA social media channels, announcing their seat on the Board leveraging HBA’s toolkit and resources. 

DO I NEED TO BE NOMINATED?

We encourage self-nomination! If you meet the Nominating Committee's criteria, please complete the online nomination form.

WHAT IF I APPLY, BUT NOT PROGRESSED?

There is always next year! And there are myriad volunteer opportunities within the association. The Nominating Committee will endeavor to provide feedback to applicants who were not slated for the board so they can improve their future chance of being chosen

WHEN ARE NOMINATIONS AND BOARD APPLICATIONS DUE?

Nominations are due by 11:59 PM ET on Monday, 7 July 2025.
