Name: Arusha Oloumi, PhD
Current Job Title/Role/Company: Sr. Medical Science Liaison at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS)
Reason for joining the HBA:
I joined the HBA to grow professionally and connect with inspiring women across the healthcare industry. I was initially introduced to HBA by a wonderful colleague and served as our internal HBA liaison, keeping our Canadian BMS team informed about valuable HBA programs and events. This led to subsequent opportunities such as attending the annual meeting in 2024 and joining our company’s inaugural HBA Ambassador Program to further develop my leadership skills and expand my network. The experience has been truly rewarding—not just for personal growth, but through the connections I’ve made and the insights I’ve gained from remarkable individuals. I’m grateful to be part of such a dynamic and supportive community.
Interests/Hobbies outside of work:
I enjoy traveling with my family and exploring new places and cultures. I also love spending time outdoors—hiking, skiing, and sharing these activities with family and friends—which helps me stay grounded and refreshed.
Volunteering:
I’m looking forward to spending more volunteer time with HBA to hopefully further expand the chapter in Western Canada.
Interesting lesson learned:
Waiting for perfection can often hold you back—sometimes, it’s more important to take action and move forward. Innovation doesn’t always have to be a grand change or discovery; even small, thoughtful changes can make a meaningful impact.
What motivates you?
I am motivated by the pursuit of growth—both personally and professionally—through collaboration, adaptability, and innovative problem-solving. I find inspiration in watching my adult children adapt to the rapid transformation of today’s world, embracing change and overcoming new challenges. Professionally, I am driven by taking part in the evolving landscape of cancer care, where innovative therapies are making a real difference in patients’ lives.
