Driving Change: Highlights from the HBA Think Tank Solutions Summit on Health and Wellness

Quote

The HBA Think Tank Solutions Summit on Health and Wellness brought together a dynamic group of leaders and changemakers for a powerful event on 4 June. Participants were given an exclusive first look at new HBA Think Tank data and engaged in thoughtful dialogue focused on actionable solutions to help close the trillion-dollar gender health gap between women's health and men's.

A morning panel, moderated by the HBA's CEO, Mary Stutts, MHA, featured Kathryn Godburn Schubert, President and CEO of the Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR), and Jonathan Webb, CEO of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN). Their conversation shed light on critical issues including the national nursing shortage, persistent maternal health disparities, and the long-term effects of chronic stress on women’s health. They also shared strategies to address these challenges, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector partnerships and dismantling silos to drive more comprehensive and balanced care.

The summit's keynote speaker, Dr. Judith Joseph MD MBA, Board-Certified Psychiatrist and Principal Investigator at Manhattan Behavioral Medicine, delivered a compelling address on the science of happiness, with a focus on the power of mind-body connection. She highlighted her work on high-functioning depression, a condition that often affects high-achieving individuals, and underscored the importance of proactive mental health strategies.

HBA Think Tank sponsor Kearney spotlighted the persistent health disparities affecting women—including higher mortality rates following heart attacks. They also shared data from their [w]Health Index, which serves as a cross-sector tool to measure and track progress in advancing women’s health.

LaToya Tapscott, CAE, Senior Director, Global Head of The HBA Think Tank, and Petrina Hurtado, Associate Director, Data Analytics and Intelligence, shared a sneak peek of new, soon-to-be-published data from an HBA Think Tank global survey on mental health and the workplace.

The day included three ThinkForward Talks, each delivering an impactful, thought-provoking message designed to spark conversations and solutions. Oriana Kraft, Founder, FemTechnology Summit & ORI, Clayton Anderson, Chairman, SHINE With Joy Foundation, and Aletha Maybank, MD, MPH, Health Strategist and Executive Physican, spoke about disparities in women’s health, the importance of using your position of privilege to uplift others, and courageously amplifying your own narrative to push forward for change.

Attendees moved into focus groups, equipped with the data and calls to action from panelists and speakers, to discuss key takeaways and the next steps for making progress. HBA Member Leaders Susan Childs, MBA, Amy Turnquist, Camille Garnett, and Karima Sharif-Ali, MBA moderated these groups, followed by a robust discussion sharing insights and action items.

A heartfelt thank you to the HBA Think Tank’s Corporate Partners, HBA Member Leaders, sponsors, attendees, staff, and everyone who contributed to the resounding success of this Solutions Summit!
