HBA Suburban Delaware Valley Member Spotlight – Susan Snodgrass
What is your current job title?
VP, US Medical Affairs at Incyte Corporation as well as the HBA Suburban Delaware Valley President
Why did you join the HBA?
I joined the HBA to connect with other professionals working in the business of healthcare. I had recently relocated to NYC when I first joined the HBA. I participated in a program called the "Circle of Advisors". It was a great experience. So, when I moved to the Delaware Valley, I looked for a similar connection through the HBA.
What are your interests outside of work and the HBA?
I love to cook. And like a lot of us, I’ve been cooking at home more over the last two years. I try to make at least one new recipe per week. The New York Times Cooking site is a great source for new recipes. I am also a voracious reader. I try to read at least a couple of books per month. My new passion is tennis — I am on the courts 3-4 times per week. I started playing during the pandemic and wish I would have started playing years earlier.
What or who inspires you?
I’m inspired by young people who are trying to make the world a better place. I admire Greta Thunberg, the environmental activist, and Malala Yousafzai who is advocated for education for girls. I was blown away by Amanda Gorman, the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate, and the poem she read at the presidential inauguration, “The Hill We Climb”.
Fun fact about you?
I’ve been in the Carnival Parade in Rio de Janeiro.
What’s your favorite quote?
“The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, for we are underlings.” It’s a quote from Shakespeare’s play, Julius Caesar. For me, it means I have the opportunity to do the best I can do with the circumstances I have been given.
What are you passionate about in your service with the HBA? In your career?
I’m passionate about mentoring women who are early in their careers. The HBA is a way to give people leadership opportunities outside of their day jobs.
