Kathrin’s team leads the global integrated R&D business operations approach within Merck’s biopharma business. Kathrin is a pharmacist and holds a PhD from Bonn University, Germany. After several years in public pharmacies and with Sandoz, she joined Merck in 1995. Overall, Kathrin has more than 25 years of global healthcare experience in project leadership, business development, strategic planning and innovation, global clinical operations and R&D operations. She is recognized as an inspiring leader with a proven track record of success in building and leading high performing teams, designing and implementing change and driving delivery and results. Kathrin is very passionate about diversity in business, since 2010 as an active volunteer with, and since 2018 as regional council chair of HBA Europe. In 2015, she was honored as an HBA Luminary for Merck as a role model, active mentor and sponsor to others and an example of transformational leadership.

Laurie Cooke is the CEO of the HBA, a nonprofit dedicated to furthering the advancement and impact of women in healthcare. She was twice recognized as a PharmaVOICE 100 most inspiring people in life sciences, and Mentor of the Year by ASAE. Laurie’s career spans global roles across several industries and continents including the Project Management Institute’s executive management team, global pharma international teams and hospital pharmacy. Laurie has a strong academic record with a BSc in Microbiology, an advanced scientific degree in pharmacy, and a master’s in software engineering management. She is a licensed pharmacist and a certified association executive.
