Message from the President – Susan Malecha

We are sharing new beginnings and new opportunities for San Diego healthcare leaders and organizations in 2020.

Over the past several years, members of HBA Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties) have been committed to the HBA purpose of furthering the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare. For the past two years, San Diego has transitioned to a new model of a San Diego chapter and a Pacific West region along with our current national and global reach. This change enhances our member and volunteer experience and enables us to build stronger relationships with our members and healthcare organizations to further our purpose and mission.

We are so excited to be a part of this newer beginning and serve HBA San Diego. The mentoring, leadership skill-building, networking and educational opportunities alongside dynamic healthcare leaders contribute to career growth. With the changing healthcare landscape right now, there is so much potential for more healthcare organizations right here in San Diego.

Additionally, we are introducing the new executive committee and board of directors for HBA San Diego:
Executive committee:

  • Susan Malecha, president
  • Vicki Shumulinsky, vice president
  • Teresa Giago, chapter operations director

Directors at large:

  • Sheri Winter, membership and volunteering
  • Lauri Campbell, marketing and communications
  • Valerie Gionis, programming

Additional collaborators:

  • Suzanne Heflin, chapter corporate engagement lead

It is an honor and privilege to continue to work with this caliber of women leaders who have dedicated their time and experience to the HBA for many years.

Whatever stage or goals you have for your healthcare career or organization, there are lots of different ways to become involved and gain value. If you are interested, please reach out to any of our HBA San Diego leaders. We would love to hear from you and see what value we could create toward a shared purpose of providing effective practices that enable organizations to realize the full potential of their female talent.

We personally invite you to join us, as we become more deeply rooted and connected to each other and form a community of committed San Diego healthcare leaders and organizations working to grow each other and making a positive impact in healthcare.
We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events for HBA San Diego. Check out our chapter calendar, at, or visit the website.
