It is hard to believe the first half of 2019 has completed and summer is upon us. HBA LA has had a strong first half of the year. From professional board development, to volunteer recognition, to monthly high-quality programming events, to lunch and learns with current and potential corporate partners, to onboarding of new corporate sponsors and ambassador programs, HBA LA continues to provide high impact opportunities for its members, dedicated volunteers and healthcare organizations in the LA and surrounding areas.
We are thankful to the following corporate sponsors who were instrumental for our success in the first half: Amgen, Takeda, Lucy Davies Golf Academy, Syneos, Biocom LA and Atara Biotherapeutics. In addition, we are happy to share that Pharmavite recently joined as a corporate partner.
Taking in the first half and reflecting, I am happy to see a shift in the types of questions the board receives and the degree of participation we are receiving from organizations. Specifically, I have noticed questions moving away from “What is the HBA and the benefits of it?” to “How can I get involved and engaged?” or “How can I get my organization more involved?” It is awesome to see that some of these questions are being asked by the most senior leaders of the organizations.
The second half should be an equally great line up of professional development, mentoring, networking events and opportunities. Please mark your calendar for 15 August which will bring together distinguished professionals from Westlake BioPartners, Bio LA, Amgen, and MannKind for a panel discussion on Los Angeles: The Next Major Biotechnology Hub. In addition, make sure to mark your calendar for the National Conference 11-12 November in San Diego.
For those that have expressed interest in taking one’s HBA commitment to the next level, please keep an eye out on the HBA web page in the upcoming months as a few spots will open up for the 2020 LA board. I encourage you to consider applying for these rewarding opportunities as they become available.
I wish you all a safe summer.
HBA Los Angeles president
