HBA Greater Philadelphia Q4 president’s message

Hello fellow HBA Greater Philly members,

I have exciting news to share in this quarterly update message. On November 3, during the HBA Leadership Reception at the 2015 HBA Annual Conference, our chapter was awarded the 2015 Chapter Excellence Award. The Chapter Excellence Award acknowledges an entire chapter board that has excelled in an area of chapter operations that exceeded the HBA's membership and/or financial targets and the chapter's own expectations. Earning this award is an outstanding accomplishment for our entire leadership team and for everyone who has volunteered their time and talents to the HBA Greater Philadelphia chapter. Hats off and hooray!

In addition to the Chapter Excellence Award, two members of our chapter leadership team were recognized for their contributions. Lisa Morris was recognized as our 2015 LEAD (Leadership Excellence and Dedication award) award recipient. For her work as the 2015 CCP chair and HBA Next project lead, Liz Coyle earned the Transformational Award, an award that recognizes a leader who continues to drive transformational change that will impact the growth of the organization and will leverage the awareness and opportunity for gender parity. Hearty congratulations to both Lisa and Liz.

Continuing on with the recognition...I’d like to congratulate our newly elected 2016 chapter board. Thank you to every member who participated in the voting process this year. The following people were voted in during the October electronic voting process:

  • President: Stacie Snodgrass
  • President-elect: Bonnie Wingate
  • Vice president: Jackie Franke
  • Secretary: Melissa Waetjen
  • Treasurer: Jessica Blaine (nee Ebert)
  • Directors-at-large:
    • Lisa Morris
    • Shetal Vyas
    • Maria Finlay
    • Maryanne Sarzynski
    • Joelle Solomon
    • Lynn Paolicelli

In addition to these newly elected positions, we have several board members returning, and some new, non-elected positions to announce. Our 2016 chapter president, Stacie Snodgrass, will share the entire board structure and team during her first quarter update.

Before we closeout 2015, we still have two more opportunities for you to enjoy. On Tuesday, December 1, we have the honor of featuring 2013 Woman of the Year (WOTY) Bridgette P. Heller and 2015 WOTY Shideh Sedgh Bina at an event at DePuy Synthes in West Chester. During this event, Vision 2016: Mapping Your Goals Begins with Imagining the Possibilities, we will hear the WOTYs share their practices for “life-mapping” – identifying both personal and career objectives, and devising a plan for attaining both. Our last event of the year takes place on Wednesday, December 9, and is a Fit-to-Lead event. Come out and dance your way to fit and increase your mind-body connection with CIZE Live at the Montgomery Township Community Recreation Center in Montgomeryville. Both events are filling up fast, so if you plan to attend, please register.

Thank you for the opportunity of allowing me to serve as your 2015 chapter president. It is an honor and privilege to serve you, our members, and to work to realize the HBA’s purpose to further the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare. Next year, we have an exceptional set of women leaders who will lead our chapter, and I look forward to continuing to work with our 2016 president, Stacie Snodgrass, and the entire leadership team to bring you the programs, events, information and networking opportunities you have come to expect from us.

All the best,
Marie R. McDonald
2015 HBA Greater Philadelphia president
